An earlier Avedon session showing Marilyn having a ball -- in a documentary on his work, Avedon commented on this session by sayign that he was overwhelmed by her energy -- that he just let her go on a black backdrop and she nearly wore him out as she let down all inhibitions and just exploded for his camera.

I love what Avedon said about his work with her... "She gave more to the still camera than any actress, any woman I've ever photographed; infinitely more patient, more demanding of herself and more comfortable in front of the camera than away from it."
